Super Eagles defender Bruno Onyemaechi has been honored as Boavista’s Player of the Month for December, receiving the prestigious Estrella Galicia award after securing the highest number of votes in a fan poll on the club’s official platforms.
Boavista announced Onyemaechi’s achievement on their official website Thursday, highlighting his consistent performances during a challenging season for the team.
Speaking after receiving the award, the 25-year-old expressed gratitude for the recognition. He then emphasized his focus on collective success over individual accolades.
“It’s not just about this award. It’s about the commitment, the team’s effort, the good work we do in the games, even when we don’t get a good result,” Onyemaechi said.
“Of course I’m happy to win this award, but the most important thing is the game against Arouca. We really want to win.”
Currently sitting 17th in the Portuguese Primeira Liga with 12 points, Boavista faces a crucial fixture against last-placed Arouca, who are also on 12 points.
Onyemaechi remains optimistic about the team’s prospects, setting his sights on improving the team’s league position in 2025.
“Our biggest goal is to climb up the league table. Personal goals? We all have them, but what matters most is the team’s success,” he said.
Onyemaechi joined Boavista from Feirense in 2022, initially on loan, before the club made his move permanent in June 2023.
