Super Falcons forward, Ifeoma Onumonu scored two brilliant goals for Montpellier HSC Féminines but was overshadowed by a disappointing 4-2 defeat against Paris FC, on Saturday night.
Onumonu, in the Division 1 Féminine netted her third goal of the season as she looks to further establish herself in France’s top women’s league.
The 30-year-old striker has found form after a goalless start to the season, scoring in back-to-back games.
She previously contributed to Montpellier’s emphatic 7-0 victory over Guingamp, setting the tone with an early goal.
Montpellier struggled to contain Paris FC’s attacking front. Maëlle Garbino opened the scoring for Paris FC in the 11th minute, only for Onumonu to draw level 15 minutes later with a well-taken finish.
Paris FC reclaimed the lead before halftime through Kessya Bussy, setting the stage for a thrilling second period.
Onumonu struck again in the 80th minute, pulling Montpellier even and demonstrating her clinical ability in front of goal.
However, Paris FC’s Julie Dufour proved decisive, scoring twice in quick succession to secure the win for the hosts.
The result leaves Montpellier in seventh place in the Division 1 Féminine standings, four points adrift of third-placed Paris FC.
Onumonu’s contributions, though impressive, could not salvage points for her team.
Montpellier will aim to rebound in their upcoming home match against Nantes on Friday, while Onumonu will aim to maintain her current goal-scoring form.
