Onuachu remains the best forward in Belgium — Bryan Heynen

Genk’s Captain Bryan Heynen is convinced that Paul Onuachu is still the best striker in Belgium.

The 25-year-old decided to jump into the defense of his Limburgers teammates following the criticism from the media.

Onuachu broke every goal records on his way to winning every individual award in Belgium last season.

Following his failed transfer move last summer, The Nigerian striker started new season poor note and was dropped from the squad by former boss John Van De Broon.

Onuachu has since rediscovered his form and has contributed 18 goals in all competitions as Genk continues their fight to nick continental ticket.

Speaking at  TV Limburg, the midfielder admits, the striker didn’t start the season in best condition, but has since left everything that happened behind and he’s enjoying himself again.

“He was phenomenal last season, we helped us alot with his goals. “

 

“He didn’t start well this term, but he has shown he’s still the best striker around in the last few games.”

 

“He’s important to our team and our club. We know people expects more from him because strikers are always in the spotlight.” He said.

On Genk’s poor season, Bryan Heynen who is in his last season with the team Club, said :

 

“Absolutely not. Even if we would have played a great year now, I would have thought the same about this,” said Heynen .

Despite two serious knee injuries, Heynen has already played 207 official games for Racing Genk. He scored fifteen times and provided twenty assists.

The midfielder, says he’s ready for foreign adventure, but want to stay focus on the challenge at hand.

“Yes, that itches. It is the ambition to take that step one day. However, the focus is now on Racing Genk, where we want to end the season in a good way. Then we will see what happens. I will not just go abroad to fight the relegation somewhere.” He concluded.
