Onuachu blasts ‘Cocky’ former KRC Genk coach Bernd Storck

Paul Onuachu endured a turbulent relationship with former KRC Genk manager, Bernd Storck, before the German was sacked in June.

Onuachu won the golden Shoe in 2020, but, later struggled for form under Storck. Six months later the manager was dismissed by the board.

“I’m not going to lie about that, Storck had his own way of thinking,” Onuachu was quoted as saying.

“He wanted to do everything himself, rarely consulted his staff or the experienced players. His will was law. He was cold, nobody dared to be himself, and people felt uncomfortable under him.”

In the same conversation, however, he was very complimentary of his current boss, Wouter Vrancken who has transformed the club since his arrival.

“Everyone feels good (under Wouter Vrancken),” the forward remarked. “It is allowed to laugh once in a while.

“He makes a joke himself, but without being too indulgent. Once on the field, everyone realizes that they have to work. Vrancken finds the perfect balance between hard work and fun. That is his strength.

“He keeps it simple, step by step. Everyone is involved in the story. This is the best staff I’ve ever worked with in my career.”

Onuachu and Storck, will come face to face later today when KV Kortrijk host KRC Genk in Belgian Jupiler league.
