The trio are behind Brazil’s Fomiga who is appearing in her seventh FIFA World Cup.
Ebi may not be available for the next edition, but her journey, which almost didn’t begin due to parental opposition, showcases her determination to pursue her passion for football.
In recent interview with FIFA.com, the Super Falcons Captain, was happy to share her story.
“When I was in school, I would sneak out to go play football,” Ebi said in an interview with FIFA.
“There was a competition that I was supposed to go to, and my Dad said ‘No, you’re not going, I’m not supporting you.’ I felt sick.
“When I went to the hospital, I was there for four days. The doctor called my parents and told them something is wrong with me, [and said] they should talk to me. ​
“My Dad just understood that it’s because of football. He came to me in the hospital and told me ‘Okay, I will let you play.'”
Now, as a veteran and a respected figure known as ‘Mama Ebi’ by her teammates, she is aiming to lead Nigeria into the knockout stages of the Women’s World Cup for the third time.
Her legacy has undoubtedly blazed a trail that will inspire many players from the continent.
