Ella Onojuvwevwo of Nigeria narrowly missed out on a podium finish in the women’s 400m final at the World Athletics U20 Championship.
Onojuvwevwo finished fifth with a time of 52.61 seconds.
The young athlete entered the final with high expectations, having secured victory in her semifinal heat with an impressive performance.
Despite a strong start in the final, Onojuvwevwo was unable to maintain her pace and ultimately fell to fifth place.
Lurdes Gloria Manuel of the Czech Republic clinched the gold medal with a time of 51.29 seconds, while Dianna Proctor of Canada set a personal best of 51.98 seconds to take the silver.
Zaya Akins of the United States rounded out the podium, finishing with a time of 52.00 seconds.
