Captain of Nigeria’s men basketball national team Ike Diogu has stated that the chance of securing qualification for the 2020 Olympic games basketball event in Tokyo will be the motivation for Nigeria ahead of the team’s final group stage game against South Korea today.
Diogu speaking in a chat with brila.net said the Nigerian D’Tigers are not far apart from the big teams in the world except in the area of knowing how to kill a game towards the end of the game which has caused the team back to back defeat.
He added that having seen South Korea play, they know what to expect and they will be out to win the game against their Asian counterpart.
“It’s been very disappointing for us because we’re fully expected to be at the point of qualifying out of the group. So we just have to learn how to finish game better, I think that’s really the only thing separating us from these top teams.
The bottom line is even though we don’t accomplish our goals here as far as been able to play and get a medal, qualifying for the Olympics is a big thing. We have seen the South Koreans and we know what to expect from them.”
The most highly placed African country will qualify for the Olympics basketball event.
