Olympic Games: Deji Aliu Confident Nigerian Athletes Will Light Up Paris

Former Nigerian sprinter and Athens 2004 Olympics bronze medalist, Deji Aliu has revealed his confidence in the quality of Nigerian Athletes as they prepare for the Olympic Games in Paris.

Aliu praised the sports ministry and the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) for their efforts in preparing the team, in their participation in competitions and an upcoming training tour in Europe.

“They’ve been really doing a lot, you know, in terms of preparing the athletes for the big events ahead from the All-African Games,” the former African Champion told Brila.net.

“They recently concluded the African Championship. Those are competitions to fine-tune the athletes in readiness for the big occasion.

“So far, everything is looking ready, like on the part of the administrator, I think they are getting set. They will be going on a training tour, which is very encouraging. On the part of the federation so far, they’ve been trying,” Aliu added.

He urged the athletes to deliver strong performances in France.

“So, I think everything is looking good. All I just think is, all I feel is, you know, we should get more commitment from the athletes. The athletes should understand that the Olympics is the biggest issue. They should bring their A-game and once that is done, I think everybody will be glad at the end of the day.”
