Former Super Eagles player and coach, Sunday Oliseh believes the form of Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey will be crucial for Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Reacting to the performance of the duo in their final EPL match of 2023, Oliseh showered praise on Iwobi and Bassey in Fulham’s hard-fought 2-1 victory against Arsenal.

In a thrilling encounter at Craven Cottage, Bassey boasted a 100% take-on success rate, a remarkable 93% pass accuracy, 76 touches, and 60 successful passes.

The 23-year-old demonstrated his defensive capabilities by winning possession five times, leading in clearances with five, securing victory in five duels, executing three tackles, and making two interceptions.

Iwobi played a pivotal role with two created scoring opportunities and two goal attempts.

Visibly impressed with their stellar performance, Oliseh expressed optimism for Nigeria’s prospects at the upcoming 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.

“Extremely impressed by the maturity and discipline put up versus Arsenal, by Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi as they played decisive roles in Fulham’s victory over a seemingly, mentally tired Arsenal. Encouraging for the AFCON,” Oliseh posted after the game.​
