Former Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh, has voiced his opinion on the position’s vacancy, suggesting Finidi George or Emmanuel Amuneke as potential candidates.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) finds itself in the market for a new gaffer following the departure of Jose Peseiro.

With the team’s illustrious history as three-time African Champions, the selection process for the new coach is under intense scrutiny.

Finidi George, currently serving as the interim boss, has overseen the team in their recent encounters against Ghana and Mali.

Meanwhile, Emmanuel Amuneke has emerged as a frontrunner for the role, given his past success with the Nigerian U17 team, leading them to victory in the World Cup in 2015 and qualifying Tanzania for 2019 AFCON.

As the NFF deliberates on appointing a head coach for Super Eagles, Oliseh’s endorsement adds weight to the debate.

“If we (Nigeria) cannot offer our indigenous coaches opportunities to help the country’s football, then who else will?”

“Everyone knows I’m an advocate of an indigenous coach to lead the Eagles, those two (Amuneke and Finidi) are good for the job,” Oliseh told Punch.

“Anybody who really understands football will know that the Eagles don’t need a foreign coach, but the indigenous coach must have a great personality.

“I’m against appointing a foreign coach for our national team. It was a local coach that won the AFCON for Ivory Coast and the previous one for Senegal.”

Taking the reins in July 2015, Oliseh navigated the team through 14 international assignments, lost only two matches before a fall out with senior members of the team and eventually his employers.
