Olayinka Bags Brace in Red Star’s Victory

Super Eagles forward Peter Olayinka was in fine form last night, scoring twice in Red Star Belgrade’s commanding 4-1 victory over Čukarički.

Olayinka opened the scoring in the 15th minute, heading home a well-delivered cross.

Just two minutes later, he doubled the lead with a sublime curling shot that left the goalkeeper stranded.

In the 77th minute, Čukarički’s defender Sambou Sissoko inadvertently extended Red Star’s lead with an own goal, making it 3-1.

Luka Ilić sealed the win with a late strike in the 89th minute.

This victory keeps Red Star Belgrade firmly at the top of the table, with 13 points from their first five matches of the season.

Before the start of the season, the forward was reportedly seeking a move away from the club.

Having joined Red Star on a free transfer in 2023, Olayinka has recently been linked with a return to Slavia Prague, and club president, Jaroslav Tvrdík, confirmed ongoing negotiations:

“A quarter of an hour ago, we reached an agreement on the terms of the transfer, and Crvena Zvezda accepted our offer. I am glad we were able to agree on the transfer price.

“We are not yet at the end to officially announce his arrival to Slavia. We still have to finalize the contractual terms. I believe we will complete it in a few days,” said Tvrdík.

Reports suggest that family considerations are driving Olayinka’s potential return, with his wife preferring Prague over Belgrade.

However, for now, it appears Olayinka will remain in Serbia, continuing to deliver for Red Star Belgrade.

Olayinka made his debut for the Super Eagles in 2019 under former coach Gernot Rohr and has earned four caps for the national team.
