Nigeria’s Victor Olatunji found the net
for Sparta Prague in their Champions League clash against Brest, marking his second goal in this season’s competition.
Despite Olatunji’s late strike in stoppage time, his team fell 2-1, deepening their struggles in the group stage as they now sit 26th in the table.
The game started on a difficult note for Sparta Prague. Just before halftime, a defensive lapse allowed Edmilson Fernandes to capitalize, giving Brest a 1-0 lead.
Sparta’s efforts to turn the game around in the second half took another blow when an unfortunate own goal further extended Brest’s advantage.
Olatunji managed to ignite some hope for Sparta with a well-taken consolation goal in the 92nd minute, latching onto a clever assist from Lukáš Sadílek.
However, his efforts weren’t enough to alter the outcome, as Sparta Prague left the pitch with a narrow defeat.
Earlier this season, Olatunji made history by scoring and assisting on his Champions League debut against RB Salzburg, making him the first Nigerian player to achieve this feat in a debut match.
Despite his club’s struggles, the 24-year-old striker has been in impressive form, tallying 7 goals and 2 assists across all competitions.
Following back-to-back losses in all competitions, Sparta Prague will be aiming to bounce back in their league clash against Mladá Boleslav on Sunday.
As for Olatunji, he continues to prove his worth, keeping fans hopeful amid challenging times for the team.
