Former Super Eagles defender Godwin Okpara has urged Super Eagles handler coach Gernot Rohr to ensure that home-based players get included in his provisional list of players for the AFCON this summer in Egypt.
Okpara stressed the need to give a chance to see any one of the home-based players impress and possibly make the cut to the competition not forgetting what holes injuries can create as well.
Okpara speaking in a chat with www.brila.net said it is imperative the coach keep a soft spot for any player that impressed when the team resume camping for the cup of nations and want the coach to be strong enough to back such player(s).
He thereafter added that he believes the coach is experienced enough to make his decision nonetheless.
“It’s almost the end of the season and I believe he should be watching and monitoring players everywhere and even back home in Nigeria where we have some good home based players as well.
“For me, I think it’s a thing that has to do with knowing how to combine the foreign-based with few home-based players.”
