Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye was on the losing side again in the Dutch Eredivisie match as his Club Sparta Rotterdam lost to Go Ahead Eagles on Saturday.
Okoye was in goal for the Kees van Wonderen’s side and he was the only reason they didn’t concede more than two goals.
Sparta Rotterdam started on the front foot and they almost took the lead inside the opening five minutes. Nigerian-Dutch youngster Emanuel Emegha unleashed a fine strike, but his effort came off the post.
The game changed quickly as Sparta Rotterdam found themselves behind a minute after almost taking the lead.
Sparta Rotterdam defender Michael Heylen gave away a penalty for tripping Isac Lindberg and Justin Bakker puts it away, with Maduka Okoye going the wrong way.
Martjin Bearden almost made it two for the home side in the 41st minute, but Maduka Okoye parried the ball behind for a corner.
Isac Lidberg also tested Okoye with another fantastic volley, but Okoye was at alert to make another impressive save.
Okoye’s team was later reduced to ten-men eight minutes into the second half when the referee sent Mica for a dangerous challenge on Luuk Brouwers.
Go Ahead Eagles made the numerical advantage count almost immediately as Fivos Botos heads home the second three minutes later.
Sparta Rotterdam failed to found their way back into the game and Go Ahead Eagles held on for a vital victory.
Okoye’s team has now failed to win any of their opening three-match – suffering two defeats and picking just a draw.
They will attempt to pick their first maximum points when they host Fortuna Sittard on the 11th of September.
