Okereke nets as Venezia beat AS Roma for the first time in 22 years

Nigerian forward David Okereke was on target for Venezia in their 3-2 victory over AS Roma at the Stadio Pierluigi Penzo in a Serie A clash on Sunday.

Okereke scored in the second half to turn the game on its head and helped the newly-promoted side secure an unlikely victory.

The Mattia Caldara’s side went in front inside opening three minutes, thanks to a free-kick from Aramu.

Roma turned the game around towards the end of the first half as Eldor Shomurodov and Tammy Abraham scored in quick succession.

Venezia restored parity in the second as Aramu scored from the spot after Cristante was adjudged to committed a foul in the box.

Okereke then completed the comeback when he beat the offside trap to score the third for Venezia with 19 minutes left to play.

Venezia coach Mattia Caldara then introduced another Nigerian Tyrone Ebuehi and the defender successfully helped the team protect their slim advantage.

The victory was the first for Venezia against Roma in the league since the 1998-1999 season.

Okereke who is on loan at Venezia from Club Brugge has now scored three goals in Serie A this season.
