Odunayo Adekuruoye wins gold in Germany Grand Prix

Odunayo Adekuoroye delivered a masterclass performance at the Germany Grand Prix as she recorded impressive victories over her opponents to claim a gold medal in the 57kg of the women’s freestyle on Monday.

In first her outing, Adekuoroye defeated Germany’s Serena Bolke 10-0 to announced her self to other opponents as the favourite for the top prize, before repeating the same scoreline in the quarterfinal to overpowered United States’ Winchester Jacarra.

The GoldCoast Commonwealth games Gold medalist continued her dominance in the semifinal tie against Hungary’s Ramona Galambos whom she defeated 10-0 as well.

The final was not a different story as she claimed another 10-0 win over another Hungarian – Anna Szell to emerge as champion without dropping a point.

The Coach of Nigeria Wrestling team Purity Akuh said he is delighted with the performance of the wrestlers against their world class opponents and added that the team will remain in Europe before proceeding to Bulgaria for a ranking tournament.

“For me, this is a good tournament for the athletes because they competed against some of the world’s best. It was a good test for them as well after months of inactiveness for them on bigger stage like this.

Regardless of the outcome, I am excited that they were able to show their qualities against strong oppositions and this I believe would boost their confidence and also help them to size up some of the potential opponents at the Olympic Games,” Akuh said.

Aminat Adeniyi was unlucky as she fell to her opponent from Canada, while Blessing Oborududu won a bronze medal in the 68kg  after beating Germany’s Maria Selmaier 10-0.
