Odion Ighalo scored his 10th international goal on Friday against Seychelles in Nigeria’s final 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match, but where does his goal tally rank among the team’s record goalscorers?
Ighalo opened scoring from the spot in the 3-1 win over Seychelles; the same manner he scored in the reverse fixture in Mahé.
He made his senior team debut in 2015 and has been capped 24 times since then, including becoming the team’s first choice forward.
However, with just nine goals, the 29-year-old falls not so far behind the top 10 players with the most international goals for Nigeria.
The late Rashidi Yekini remains the Country’s record goalscorer with 37 goals in his 58 caps; 20 more goals than Ahmed Musa who is still the only active Eagles’ player in the top 10.
Interestingly, Ighalo’s tally is just four, behind the legendary Austin Okocha and Julius Aghahowa who reached their goal haul in 73caps and 31caps respectively.
The China based forward has scored seven goals in his last four appearances and could add to his goals tally on Tuesday when the Eagles face Egypt in an international friendly.
