Former Super Eagles defender, Godfrey Oboabona has expressed confidence in Austin Eguavoen’s ability to permanently lead the Nigerian national team as head coach.
Having previously played under Eguavoen, Oboabona praised the interim coach’s qualities and leadership capabilities but emphasized the importance of full support from the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) for success.
“This is a coach that has the quality and everything it takes. I played under him before, and he’s a very good coach,” Oboabona said, affirming his belief in Eguavoen’s ability to guide the Super Eagles.

However, Oboabona was cautious regarding the dynamics between Eguavoen and the NFF stating, “I don’t really know anything about the communication between him and the NFF, so I can’t comment on that aspect.”
He concluded by stressing the crucial role of support for any coach, saying, “Even a good coach can’t succeed without proper backing. If the support is there, things will work well.”
Eguavoen, who has been serving in an interim capacity, has received mixed reactions regarding a potential permanent role, but Oboabona’s endorsement highlights the confidence many players have in his abilities, including players like Moses Simon and William Troost-Ekong who are still in the team.
