Super Eagles goalkeeper, Amas Obasogie has expressed his excitement at the prospect of representing Nigeria if given the chance in Monday’s AFCON qualifier against Rwanda.

First-choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali left the Super Eagles camp after the sudden passing of his father, with the coaching staff excusing him to attend to family matters.

This unexpected development has opened up a spot in the goalkeeping department, giving Maduka Okoye, the former first-choice, and Amas Obasogie a chance to step in.

With Nigeria already qualified for AFCON 2025, there’s little pressure on the team for this match, but they remain determined to finish the qualifiers on a high note.

In an interview with Brila.net, Obasogie, who currently plays for Fasil Kenema, shared his thoughts on the opportunity.

He highlighted what it would mean for him to make his debut, particularly if chosen ahead of Udinese’s Maduka Okoye.

“Being invited to the Super Eagles always changes my mentality as a football player and also as a goalkeeper. You want to improve everyday. Being invited is a privilege” Obasogie said.

“It would be a wonderful moment for me, my family, and the team. I’ll try to give my best . A lot of people are looking up to me and waiting for me to play. I’ll do my best if called upon.”

He also spoke about the broader significance of football for Nigerians and how important it is to win the game:

“We know how there’s hardship in Nigeria, and how football brings Joy to the people. We don’t want to give Nothing less than to bring Joy to the people.”

The Super Eagles are determined to end their AFCON qualifying campaign on a high note as they face Rwanda in their final match.
