Kelechi Nwakali has been named Barnsley’s Goal of the Month winner for December, marking a significant milestone in the Nigerian midfielder’s growing impact at the club.
Nwakali’s award-winning strike came during Barnsley’s crucial 2-1 victory over Exeter City at St. James Park.
His stunning volley from the edge of the box leveled the score just after halftime, ending the team’s three-game losing streak and sparking a turnaround in form that saw them win three of their next four matches.
The club confirmed Nwakali’s win in a statement released on Friday:
“Reds fans have voted Kelechi Nwakali the December Goal of the Month winner.
The Nigerian midfielder struck home against Exeter City on December 14 in Devon, volleying from the edge of the area just after the restart to level proceedings at St James Park.”
The award was presented to Nwakali by Reds fan and boxer Callum Simpson at Oakwell, further solidifying the midfielder’s growing connection with the Barnsley faithful.
After joining the club last summer, Nwakali initially struggled for game time but has become a regular since the turn of the year. He has featured in six of Barnsley’s last seven games, delivering performances that have quickly endeared him to fans.
The former Arsenal player is determined to maintain his impressive form and help Barnsley achieve their promotion ambitions.
With his eye-catching displays, Nwakali is fast becoming a key figure in the team’s quest for a return to the English Championship.
