Nwabili To Replace Uzoho in Nigeria’s 2023 AFCON Squad

In a bid to secure a spot in Nigeria’s squad for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Chippa United’s goalkeeper Stanley Nwabili, has expressed hope following his standout performances.

The 27-year-old has garnered attention for his impressive displays, boasting six clean sheets in 12 league appearances and conceding only 10 goals this season.

Nwabili’s remarkable form has elevated his standing, prompting Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro to closely monitor his progress.

Peseiro personally visited Chippa United’s training ground on Friday, engaging with the former Enyimba goalkeeper.

“I wish to get a call-up but it’s not compulsory. It’s not by my performance because everyone is doing well in different clubs, other goalkeepers have been doing well in their clubs,” he told iDiski Times.

“If you are called up to your national team, kudos to you but I wish to represent my own country. I wish to wear my country’s jersey. I wish to wear it again.

“I went there before and I wish to wear it again in a nice tournament. That’s my wish.”

Nwabili was in goal when Nigeria’s Super Eagles lost 4-0 Mexico in an international friendly back in 2021.
