Chairman of the League Management Company of Nigeria LMC Mallam Shehu Dikko has revealed the sanction module employed by the league organisers to clamp down on clubs and venues where there are incidents of crowd violence.
Dikko told brila.net that the sanction module has been reviewed and now targeted at clamping down on irate supporters especially after it must have been established that the clubs fulfill their obligation in having the required security measures in place at such venues.
He explained that when the requirement to start a game is met, the only thing that can be done is to manage crisis but that when fans that cause trouble get serious punishment that affects their team, they will adjust accordingly.
“We have changed the module, because we now look at the clubs to find if the clubs provide what they have to do as per security and other services but when you have thousands of people at the stadium, only some two, three to ten people cause trouble. So we now try to set the punishment to target where the fans will be very hurt so that when they clubs get hit by their action, they will have a rethink about their actions.”
