NPFL Champions Plateau Utd share points with Eagles

Home-based Super Eagles were held to a 0-0 draw with Plateau United in their first game at the Nigeria Professional Football League invitational tournament on Wednesday.

The home-based Super Eagles are using the pre-season NPFL tournament to prepare for the 2018 African Nations Championship billed for Morocco in February.

Ibrahim Mustapha nearly gave the Home Eagles the lead in the fifth minute but his shot narrowly went wide.

The play was stopped for few minutes after home-based Super Eagles defender Adeleye Olamilekan sustained what looked like a bad injury. He was promptly replaced by Kalu Orji.

Peter Eneji wasted another effort for Salisu Yusuf’s charges in the 23rd minute when he directed his header over the goal post following an inviting cross by Osas Okoro.

Eneji had another effort saved by Okiemute Odah nine minutes before the break as the Home Eagles totally dominated the game.

The pattern of play continued after the break with the Home Eagles in cruise control.

The NPFL holders Plateau United winger King Osanga had the first real chance of the second half but failed to direct his shot on goal.

Rabiu Ali wasted two free-kicks from the edge of the area in the 52nd and 54th minutes.

Salisu introduced Anthony Okpotu and Dayo Ojo for Peter Eneji and Sikiru Olatunbosun in the 58th minute.

Tosin Omoyele and Abubakar Umar also wasted good chances for the NPFL Champions, Plateau United late on.
