  • The NFF Players’ Committee official alleges Documents show NFF Raised Concerns over Players’ Welfare with NPFL

  • Several incidents in the past have seen Players lament poor treatment by Clubs

  • Players have died on the pitch and many are owed a backlog of Salaries

Austin Popo, a member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Players Status Subcommittee, has emphasized the importance of enforcing recommendations to improve player welfare in the country.

“We are committed to resolving as many disputes as possible.” – Popo

Speaking with Brila.net, Popo stressed that enforcement has historically been a major challenge for previous committees addressing disputes between players, clubs, and agents.

“This time around, we mean business because members of the committee were informed about past experiences,” he stated.

Reflecting on past efforts, he noted, “I was going through my documents and saw numerous letters from the NFF to league bodies for enforcement in 2015.

“Unfortunately, there was no response. It is a shame, but the leadership of this present administration truly wants to do justice to it.”

He continued, “We made it clear that it’s not just about making decisions. The problem has always been enforcement. If they’re not ready to enforce decisions this time, there’s no point in wasting our time.”

“I think we have a lot of serious-minded people in the committee, and we are doing a good job. We are committed to resolving as many disputes as possible.”
