Women Football Administrator and Chairman of Adamawa Queens Emmanuel Zira has stated that it is not yet time to celebrate the introduction of the Africa women champions league expected to commence next year stressing that little can be celebrated not until the format and CAF’s financial engagement concerning the competition is known and revealed.
Zira speaking in a chat with www.brila.net said while it sounds fair to celebrate the introduction of the competition, it is equally very important for people to come to terms with the practical realities of staging such competition and the financial implication on clubs considering the peculiar nature of women football in Africa. He added that not until the level of CAF’s financial engagement to clubs competing in the champions league is known, there is little or nothing to celebrate yet.
“To start CAF must be heavily involved and the champions league to start with they have to develop a format that is suitable for everybody and that is cheap for them to finance because very few countries can finance the champions league we are not like Europe.
Most of the clubs in Europe are attached to the main clubs so they are able to fund that and they have good sponsorship for that. It’s not just jubilating, when people jubilate I tell them what are they jubilating over. Have you seen the format, what is it going to look like.”
