Sevilla head coach García Pimienta has urged Super Eagles forward Chidera Ejuke to improve his overall game, despite scoring the decisive goal in their 1-0 victory over Real Sociedad at the Reale Arena on Sunday.
Ejuke was handed a rare start as Sevilla traveled to San Sebastián, taking advantage of Rubén Vargas’ absence due to fitness concerns.
The Nigerian winger, who has played a secondary role to Vargas since returning from injury, made the most of his opportunity by securing a crucial three points for his side.
Despite his match-winning performance, Pimienta believes Ejuke still has room for improvement.
With his goal against Real Sociedad, Chidera Ejuke has made a strong case for himself to regain his place in the starting eleven. However, he must be consistent.
Speaking after the game, Pimienta praised Ejuke’s effort but emphasized the need for further development.

“Unfortunately, Rubén’s hip problems meant he couldn’t participate, he tried even at half-time but it wasn’t possible, he was honorable, he was honest and he tried” Pimienta said via Sevilla’s website.
“That was an opportunity for Ejuke, I think he did very well, he played a very good 65 minutes in terms of play, but also defensively, working for the team.
“We must try to recover the best version of Ejuke, because we are very happy for him too.”

Ejuke’s return to form comes at a crucial time for Sevilla
While he was sidelined for three months, the club strengthened their squad in January by signing Vargas, who has been a standout performer since his arrival.
With the Swiss winger proving to be more effective in Sevilla’s attacking setup, Ejuke will need to build on this performance and offer more in the final third to retain his place in the starting lineup.
Sevilla’s victory extends their unbeaten run in La Liga away games to five their longest streak since May 2023.
The Andalusian side now sits 10th in the Spanish top flight with 36 points after 27 matches.
