Nobody Gave Rena Wakama, D’Tigress A Chance Against Australia – Nnaji

Former D’Tigress coach, Scott Nnaji, has praised the Nigerian women’s basketball team for their stunning victory over Australia, whom majority assumed they stood no chance against.

The historic victory of total score 75-62 was Nigeria’s first win in women’s basketball at the Olympic Games.

Speaking to Brila.net, Nnaji stated, “Nobody gave Nigeria a chance because of Australia’s place in the rankings.

He commended coach Rena Wakama for her strategy, noting, “The coach did a good job with the way she set up the team to play aggressively and be full of running against the Australians.”

“We keep looking at names and not looking at the individuals involved at the time they are there. The Australian team is an aged team. They brought in young players who can bring that youthfulness, and the team did well by playing an aggressive and running game.”

Nnaji concluded, “We had some of the more experienced ones moving forward, but happy for it to be a difficult one.”
