New Rangers boss, Philippe Clement says Cyriel Dessers must earn his place in his team, insisting that he’ll give no player a special treatment.

Philippe Clement was appointed to replace sacked Micheal Beale at Ibrox, and the Belgian will reunite with some players he knew in the past, including Dessers.

The Nigerian international, who was born in Belgium, is currently under performing as he has only scored once in seven Scottish league appearance for the Gers.

“I am not a magician and cannot see into the future, but in the long term I know that I can make players better,” Clement said on his relationship with the striker.

“Everyone starts with a clean slate for me. I am not going to give Dessers special treatment, just because he is a fellow countryman of mine. Every player gets the same opportunities,” Clement concluded.

Rangers paid over five million euro to sign Dessers from Cremonese despite scoring just seven goals in twenty-nine appearances in Serie A last season.

The 28-year-old has registered just three goals and three assists in 15 appearances for the Gers across all competitions.
