Former Super Eagles midfielder Mutiu Adepoju has advised the team to approach the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCONwith caution, stating that while the Super Eagles should qualify without major issues, winning their group will not come easy.
The draw, held on Monday, placed Nigeria alongside Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania in Group C.
Tunisia stands out as the toughest challenge, especially given their history of knocking the Super Eagles out of the 2021 tournament with a 1-0 victory in the Round of 16.
In an interview with Brila.net, Adepoju emphasized the need for meticulous preparation, particularly against Tunisia, in what could serve as a reverse of their 2021 AFCON meeting.
“There is no small team in Africa anymore. We just have to prepare very well and play our best when the time comes. On paper, it doesn’t look easy, but it’s not inaccessible either,” he said.
When asked about the potential for revenge against Tunisia, Adepoju dismissed the notion, stressing the importance of focus.
“There’s no need for revenge. We just need to concentrate. We know what happened in that game, but I believe this time, we are going to win.”
The Super Eagles, three-time African champions, will head into the tournament in Morocco with their sights set on a fourth AFCON title.
Their last triumph came in 2013, and they will be aiming to restore glory after narrowly losing the 2023 final to Côte d’Ivoire.
The 2025 AFCON is set to kick off on December 21, with the group stage matches running through December 31, excluding Christmas Day.
