Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen has expressed his excitement about forming a lethal partnership with Mauro Icardi, following Galatasaray’s 4-3 victory over Elfsborg in the UEFA Europa League.
In a bold tactical move, Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk paired Osimhen and Icardi together for the first time, dismissing speculation of a rivalry between the two prolific forwards.
Reflecting on the hard-fought win, Osimhen praised his team’s resilience and credited the Swedish side for their spirited performance.
“We knew it would be difficult. The opponent was good in defence. We are happy that we won, though we had some scary moments towards the end.
“I couldn’t score, but what matters is that the team got the win. I also want to congratulate the opponent—they fought well,” he said in an interview with Fanatik.
While Osimhen acknowledged the challenges of the match, he was most excited about his growing connection with Argentine forward Mauro Icardi.
He believes that their partnership will strike fear into opposing defenses.
“When we play together, no one can stand against us. It’s exciting to play with Icardi. He almost gave me an assist, and he’s a great player.
“Playing with him is extraordinary, and I think no defence will be able to stop us when we’re on the pitch together,” Osimhen declared.
Osimhen’s confidence in the partnership with Icardi will have opponents on high alert as Galatasaray look to push deeper into their Europa League campaign.
Domestically, the club is also flying high, leading the Turkish Super Lig table with 25 points from nine matches.
