FC Nilayo condemned Ekiti United to a 2-0 defeat at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, Ogun State in a match day 3 Nigeria National League fixture on Sunday.
Coming from a 3-1 defeat at Osun United, FC Nilayo did the needful and scored two Spectacular goals from dead ball situations.
The game started with real spark as the home side took the initiative to the visitors with long balls which their defence dealt with beautifully as they also made their intentions known.
Sunday Olukoya and Kabiru Popoola then combined well with a terrific movement that almost gifted the home side the lead but deadlock remained unbroken.
FC Nilayo’s attacking play eventually yielded when Azeez Falolu rose head above others in the box to exquisitely nod home from a corner kick in the 15th minute.
The visitors immediately tried to get back into the game but the vastly experienced Ganiu Adejumo left nothing to chance and dealt with every dangerous balls.
The second goal was only a matter of time as the home side attacked in numbers and defended as a unit.
Few seconds before half time, Isiaka Nurudeen produced a magic moment with a long throw straight into the box, and Kabiru Popoola headed the ball into the net.
The second half was tensed as Ekiti United created several chances but they were reduced to creating chances only and not scoring.
The home side also did everything possible to increase the tally with Lekan Abdulsalam who scored a beautiful goal against Abia Comets as well as Chidera Chinyere and Popoola Kabir all trying to put the game beyond the visitors reach but the two first half goals proved enough for Nilayo’s first victory of the season after a 1-1 home draw with Abia Comets was followed by the 1-3 loss to Osun United last weekend.
Next for Nilayo FC is a mouth watering encounter with Shooting stars of Ibadan at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta in a match day 4 encounter.
