Ese Brume will miss the women’s Long Jump event at the 2022 African Senior Athletic Championship in Mauritius.

Brume was unable to make the trip to Port Louis because of passport issues and will miss the opportunity to defend her title.

The Nigerian won three consecutive African Championships titles in 2014 (Marrakesh), 2016 (Durban) and 2018 (Asaba).

In other event, Tima Godbless failed to qualify for the final of the Women’s 100m race after finishing fourth in her semi-final heat.

She ran a personal Best (PB) of 11.25s to advance to the semis, However she crossed the finished line with a 11.62s in the semis.

It was a similar case for Balikis Yakubu who finished 2nd in 11.76s during the heats and then settled for 5th in 11.63s in the semis.

Meanwhile, Raymond Ekevwo is Nigeria’s sole qualifier in the men’s 100m final. Ekevwo placed 2nd with a time of 10.11s and then clocked 10.15s in the semis to advance to the final.

Seye Ogunlewe missed out in the final after finishing 4th in the semis, while Nicholas Mabilo finished 3rd in Heat 5 with a time of 10.54s, narrowly missing on a qualification spot for the next round.
