Former Chairman of Gombe State Football Association, Alhaji Ahmed Gara-Gombe has described the NPFL as the worst, globally.
In a chat with www.brila.net, Gara-Gombe says there is no transparency, no screening and the news of players and coaches being owed has become the order of the day in the Nigerian local league.
In his words, we do not have a league and if we have, we have the worst league in the world, with no sponsorship, even the sponsors they met on the ground have left and they didn’t bring any impact.
“We do not have a functional development program, we don’t even have a sporting infrastructure, and there is no accountability or transparency on the resources that are being pumped into our football both from local sources and also external sources.”
“Every day you will hear players being owed and coaches being owed, for goodness sake, why is the story only the characteristics of Nigerian football? Why is such an attitude a characteristic of our football?”
“Are we not created by the same God with the people who are doing it right in the neighboring countries like Togo and Benin Republic or even Niger here, have you ever heard about the economy of these countries?!,
“The Gambia does not have the population of Gombe State, but you will never hear of complaints about their National team saying they have not been paid. So, what are we talking about, those who won the federation cup have not been paid since, are we saying the sponsors of the federation cup have not remitted their sponsor’s money to the NFF before the competition started or not?”Gara-Gombe asked.
