Super Falcons’ Rinsola Babajide and Gift Monday were the stars of the show as Costa Adeje Tenerife secured a crucial 2-0 victory over Sevilla in the Spanish Liga F on Sunday.

The two forwards combined brilliantly, each finding the back of the net to keep their team in the hunt for a top finish this season.

Early Breakthrough for Babajide

Costa Adeje Tenerife wasted no time in making their mark on the match, with Rinsola Babajide opening the scoring in the ninth minute.

The goal came in dramatic fashion when a Sevilla defender’s attempted clearance ricocheted off Babajide and into the net, giving the home side an early lead.

Babajide, a former Liverpool player, was a constant threat down the flanks, using her pace and skill to trouble the Sevilla defense. However, she received a yellow card in the 58th minute for a challenge before being substituted for Beatriz Beltrán in the 75th minute.

Despite exiting the match early, she had already done enough to influence the game, bringing her season tally to six goals and three assists in 14 league appearances.

Gift Monday Seals the Victory

The second goal came in the 56th minute through a perfect Nigerian connection.

Babajide delivered a well-placed cross into the box, and Monday Gift rose highest to head the ball past the Sevilla goalkeeper, doubling Tenerife’s lead.

Gift Monday continued to be a key figure for the team before being substituted in the 83rd minute for Morocco’s Sakina Ouzraoui Diki.

Her goal—her ninth of the season—further cemented her status as one of the most dangerous attackers in Liga F.

In addition to her impressive goal tally, she has also provided three assists in 15 league appearances this season.

Tenerife Maintain Sixth Place Ahead of Valencia Clash

The victory keeps Costa Adeje Tenerife in sixth place on the Liga F table with 26 points after 17 matches.

They will now shift focus to their next league fixture against bottom-placed Valencia on February 9, 2025, where they will face fellow Nigerian forward Ezekiel Motunrayo.
