Nigeria Wrestlers to surpass medal record at 2019 All Africa Games – coach Akuh Purity

20 days to the start of the 2019 All Africa games, National Wrestling coach Akuh Purity has disclosed that intensive preparation is still ongoing as all wrestlers are hard at work in camp as the plan heading into the games is to defend medals won at 2015 All Africa Games in Republic of the Congo, and also to surpass the record and numbers of medals won.

Nigeria finished second on the overall standing at the 2015 games winning 144 medals, 19 of which came from Wrestling as Nigeria finished first in wrestling category winning 9 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze medals.

 

While giving update on camping Coach Akuh Purity said “We are preparing very well. I appreciate the Governor of Bayelsa state for his assistance as he organised competition that was used in selecting some of the wrestlers in camp”

 

“We’ve divided our training, We now have two training sessions in the morning and evening, and we’re also engaged watching videos of our opponents so we can know how best to floor them”

 

Wrestling coach Purity said the team will remain camping in Yenegoa, Bayelsa state and would hope to finalize on the list of wrestlers for the All Africa games mid-august.

 

The Coach also said the wrestling team will leave Nigeria for Morocco later in August with the second batch of delegations as the wrestling events doesn’t start in the first week of the games but rather towards the end of the competition.
