Nigeria’s Senior WNT, the Super Falcons, will challenge the French women’s national team in a friendly match scheduled for November 30, at the Raymond-Kopa Stadium in Angers.
This clash will be the Falcons’ second friendly within a two-month period, following a doubleheader against Algeria at home, where they triumphed with 2-0 and 4-1 victories.
For France, this will be their third match of the season, having previously played on the same turf during a 2023 tournament where they defeated Uruguay 5-1 and drew with Norway.
France has a strong record against Nigeria, having won all three previous encounters (2001, 2018, 2019), but Nigeria’s recent form suggests they are prepared for the challenge.
The French team recently defeated Jamaica 3-0 but suffered a 2-1 loss to Switzerland in their last friendly.
Interim coach, Justin Madugu has been overseeing Nigeria’s preparations, incorporating a mix of home-based and international players to build a cohesive squad.
This friendly aligns with Nigeria’s strategy of competitive preparation, especially aiming to improve their performance against European teams after mixed results in previous tournaments, including a memorable run to the quarterfinals of the 2023 FIFA World Cup, where they narrowly lost to England in a penalty shootout.
The Super Falcons are keen to leverage this friendly as a platform to build momentum and test their strategies against a top European team before concluding their year.
Following this match, France will face reigning World Cup champions Spain on December 3 in Nice.
