Nigeria national u-19 cricket team’s captain, Sylvester Okpe has revealed that the team is confident and ready for the challenge ahead of their debut at the 2020 ICC U-19 World Cup in South Africa.
In a chat with brila.net, Sylvester expressed his mixed feeling of excitement and anxiety following their surprise
qualification for the ICC World cup.
“I have butterflies but I’m seriously looking forward to play at the big stage. I am also nervous as the captain I have a lot of responsibility to carry out on-field and off-field.
“We have been training for months since our qualification, I want to show that we have talents in Nigeria that can play in the big stage”.
The Junior Yellow Greens who have been drawn in Group B alongside Australia, England and West Indies a group Sylvester
Okpe describes as tough.
“Each of the teams in our group have won the world cup several times and are good in different aspect, they have more
experience on this big stage than us, so I don’t think there will be an easy game for us at the world cup. “
The Nigeria u-19 team will kickoff their ICC U19 Cricket World Cup campaign against Australia on 20 January at the Diamond
Oval in Kimberley.
