Nigeria to Push for Women’s Football Teams in All NPFL Clubs, Says NFF President

Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, the President of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), has revealed bold plans to boost the development of women’s football in Nigeria.

Gusau revealed that policies will soon be implemented to ensure that all clubs in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) establish their own women’s teams—a move he believes is essential for improving the country’s female football scene.
Speaking on the importance of aligning with global standards, Gusau said,
“We need to do more to invest in our female football and what we are going to do, we are going to come out with a policy to see how we can make it compulsory for each of our Premier Club to see how they can have a female counterpart team.”
“This is because that is a trend that is going on all over the world and that is the only way we can improve our female football.”
According to Gusau, the inclusion of women’s teams in NPFL clubs will create better opportunities for talent identification and development, elevating the standard of women’s football in Nigeria.
He added, “Once, by grace of God, we try to make it a policy, all our Premier Club introduce their own female counterpart, then I think we are going to see a lot of these young girls being exposed to the world.”
