Nigeria U-17 Women Team, Flamingos, are currently preparing for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic next month.
However, the head coach Bankole Olowookere has stated that while the team is making progress, some of the players are currently injured.
Olowookere shared that a key player is dealing with a serious injury, but he is hopeful the medical team will help her recover in time.
“We had a tough time. One of our major players got injured. We’re trying to work on that with the switching of teams.”
The coach explained that other players are also carrying minor knocks but expects them to recover soon.
“It’s been a bit difficult, but we’re still working on that so that she can be on her feet. You know, it is training, and there’s one or two knocks, but it’s not that major… Only that one is a major one, so we’re working on that.”
Olowookere believes the team has enough depth to handle the situation if necessary.
“We still have time. if not, we have a number of them in camp training together. Every player in the team is equal to the task to make Nigeria proud.”
“Our priority is to bring something good, something meaningful, something joyful back to Nigeria. We need to contribute a quarter and bring joy to the land. Definitely, that’s what we’re working on. We’re going to get that done.”
