Secretary of Nigeria rowing, canoeing and sailing federation, Olubunmi Oluode have called on Nigerians to expect an excellent performance from the contingent who are will participate at the Africa rowing Olympic qualifiers in Tunisia.
She told brila.net that the team travelled ahead of schedule and have been in camp training with the facilities and getting acclamitized to things in Tunisia ahead of their qualifiers on Thursday.
Team Nigeria have two female and two male rowers in camp, two of which are para-rowers who will also be participating in the qualifier to secure a 2020 paralympic ticket.
“Target has been set, the male para rower who is the current African champion, has been training in London before he joined the rest of the team in Nigeria while female para rower, Toyin Alayode has been training really hard, the able-bodied rowers have been in camp since the All Africa games and we are expecting the best from them as well, we’re optimistic that from the four athletes Nigeria will qualify for the Olympics.” Olubunmi revealed.
Meanwhile, ahead of the Olympic 2020 Sailing qualifier set for Angola later this year, the Secretary of the federation said two athletes are currently training towards the event.
