Nigeria Leads Race to Host 2025 CAA Zone II U18 and U20 Championships

Nigeria is a strong contender to host the 2025 West African Athletics Youth Championships, a qualifying event for the Continental Youth Championship, which will be held in Madagascar later that year.

The competition will feature under-18 and under-20 athletes from across the region.

The last edition of the CAA Zone II Senior Championship which held in Accra, Ghana, saw over 400 athletes and officials from 10 countries participate.

The event was recognized by World Athletics (WA) as an official qualifier for the Olympic Games, underscoring its prestige and importance.

There are growing indications that Nigeria could secure the bid to host the sub-regional event, with the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) proposing multiple venues for consideration.

Among them is the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, Ogun State, which is currently undergoing significant renovations in preparation for the 22nd National Sports Festival.

The stadium is being equipped with a new state-of-the-art tartan track, making it an ideal venue for a high-profile competition like the CAA Zone II U18 and U20 Championships.

Other venues under consideration include the Stephen Keshi International Stadium in Asaba, Delta State, and the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
