As the anticipated CAF Awards 2024 approaches, Nigeria is well-represented, in the just released Women’s Award Category, with top players and clubs featuring prominently in the prestigious list of nominees.
The awards ceremony, set to take place in Marrakech, Morocco, on 16 December 2024, will also celebrate the achievements of African women’s football from January to October 2024.
The CAF Women’s Player of the Year award has seen fierce competition, with Rasheedat Ajibade (Nigeria / Atletico Madrid) and Chiamaka Nnadozie (Nigeria / Paris FC) among the nominees, alongside other international stars like Tabitha Chawinga (Malawi / Olympique Lyonnais) and Sanaa Mssoudy (Morocco / AS FAR).
Ajibade’s consistent performances for her club and country have earned her a spot in this competitive category.
In the Goalkeeper of the Year category, Monle Oyono (Nigeria / Edo Queens) is a standout nominee, along with Khadija Er-Rmichi (Morocco / AS FAR) and Chiamaka Nnadozie (Nigeria / Paris FC), who has continued to impress with her performances in both domestic and international competitions.
The Interclub Player of the Year category includes Emem Essien (Nigeria / Edo Queens), who played a pivotal role in her team’s successful run in the CAF Women’s Champions League group stages. She is joined by Doha El Madani(Morocco / AS FAR) and Khadija Er-Rmichi (Morocco / AS FAR), among other stars.
The Young Player of the Year category also features Nigerian talent with Flourish Sabastine (Nigeria / Stade de Reims) and Chiamaka Okuchukwu (Nigeria / Rivers Angels) among the nominees.
In the Coach of the Year category, Nigerian football is represented by Moses Adukwu (Edo Queens), who has led the Nigerian club to impressive heights in the CAF Women’s Champions League. Other nominees include Ahmed Ramadan(FC Masar) and Thinasonke Mbuli (University of the Western Cape).
Additionally, Nigeria’s National Team is nominated for National Team of the Year, along with Nigeria U-17 and Nigeria U-20.
The Club of the Year category sees Edo Queens competing against other top clubs such as AS FAR(Morocco) and Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa).
