Nigeria Dominates African Wrestling Championships

Nigeria’s wrestling contingent at the African Championships in Egypt displayed remarkable dominance, securing all five gold medals on offer as the competition concluded.

Following their success on Monday, where they clinched four gold medals, the team added five more on Tuesday.

 

Mercy Genesis secured gold in the 50kg category by defeating Rosine Ntsa Assouga of Cameroon via a fall.

Her victory solidified her position as a favorite to earn a spot at the Paris qualifiers scheduled from March 22 to 24.

Adijat Idris, Mercy Adekuoroye, Ebipatei Mughenbofa, and Ebi Biogos also clinched gold medals for Nigeria in the 55kg, 59kg, 65kg, and 72kg categories, respectively.

With a total of nine gold medals and one silver, Nigeria claimed the team title with an impressive 245 points out of a possible 250. Egypt secured the second position with 162 points, while Tunisia finished third with 140 points.
