Nigeria secured a final score of 51-66 victory over Egypt on Wednesday, advancing to the semi-finals of the FIBA U-18 Women’s AfroBasket Championship in Pretoria, South Africa, on Wednesday.

This is the first time in 14 years that Nigeria has reached the semifinals of the tournament.

J’Tigress dominated from the start, leading 24-13 at the end of the first quarter and 37-21 at half-time.

By the third quarter, they extended their lead to 54-36 before sealing the victory at 66-51.

Nigeria’s win avenged their earlier 72-60 group-stage loss to Egypt.

Egypt, two-time champions and last edition’s silver medalist, were unable to repeat their success against the Nigerian side.

Nigeria has yet to win the tournament, having finished as runners-up only once.

The FIBA U-18 AfroBasket also serves as a qualification tournament for the FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup.

Mali remains the most successful team in the competition with eight titles, while Egypt, Senegal, and DR Congo have two titles each.
