‘Nigeria can shock Norway’ – Chukwunonye

Super Falcons and Kungsbacka of Sweden defender Josephine Chukwunonye emphatically declared that the Nigerian team has all it takes to cause an upset against The Grasshoppers of Norway this evening.
Speaking to Brila.net from Italy, the Falcon’s player who did not make the final list of 23 players for the women’s world cup disclosed that she is confident her counterparts in France can take on all comers starting with Norway.

“I know how top notch the preparation was and i know the kind of dogged and never-say-die spirit we have. I can tell you that the girls are very hungry and committed to equal what the team did in 1999.”

Asked how she felt about being dropped by Thomas Dennerby, Chukwunonye who was at the 2011 and 2015 World cup, said it came as a shock but has now accepted it in good faith.

“At first i was so surprised i did not make the cut but now, i’m looking at the good of the nation. We sure have a lot of good players out there and i know we are also looking to break this group stage jinx, so if at the moment there are better options, by all means, let’s do what is needed.

I will be here cheering the girls to victory, i know we are a stronger team than we used to be thanks to the coach and preparations from NFF. Thankfully too, to the best of my knowledge, the federation has not put the team under pressure” .

It will be recalled that Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) secretary general Mohammed Sanusi, stated a few days ago that there is no extra pressure being placed on the Super Falcons.

“The federation has given the girls the best preparations to excel in the World Cup, the level of dedication is high in the camp and I believe the girls are not in any form of pressure.”

After playing Norway, Nigeria will also face Korea in Grenoble on June 12 and hosts France in Rennes five days later.

The Super Falcons are looking to advance beyond the group stage at the WWC for the first since 1999.
