Chairman of the three man committee set up to reposition the Ondo State Football Agency Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye has stated that the decision to hire former national team coaches Austin Eguavoen and Ike Shorunmu as coach and goalkeeper trainer was borne out of the need to help stabilise the fortunes of the Akure bases club after a slow start to the ongoing season.
Elegbeleye stressed in a chat with brila.net that the coaches have been handed the mandate of ensuring that the club do not get relegated and also ensure they keep the team in the top half of the table after which they will have their contract reviewed for possible extension if they do well by the end of the season.
“We’re bringing them to Sunshine stars to bring a better technical input into the team because we are not doing well at the moment. So we believe their coming together with the assistance of other local coaches in the team will help stabilise the team. The contract is to the end of the season, if they do well and the powers at the end of the season says they should stay, then their contract will be extended.”
Sunshine stars currently sit 18th on the NPFL table after 18 matches and also have a game in hand.
