Officials of Enugu Rangers were on Friday robbed of the sum of ₦4m on their way from a bank by yet-to-be-identified men.According to reports the money was for the club’s expenses for their first and second leg CAF Confederation Cup clash with Zesco United of Zambia.
The Flying Antelopes will host the first leg at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium on Sunday before they travel for the second leg in Zambia next week.
Spokesman for the club, Foster Chime confirmed that the money was for the payment of the officials, who will be in charge of the first leg in Enugu per Idris Adesina [w/r Punch].
“Some officials of the accounts department of the club were robbed of ₦4m on Friday morning at gun point. They had gone to the bank to withdraw the cash and were taking it to the club’s office located on Abakaliki Road in GRA before the robbers struck,” he said.
“The money is actually for the running around and the payment of the officials who will take part in the first leg of the third round of the Confederation Cup on Sunday. But this development will not affect the match in anyway.
“We have reported the matter to the Police and they have begun their investigations into it. It is really a sad development.”
