NFF elections to hold in Katsina

The NFF Congress adopted a motion to the effect that future Elective Congresses be moved away from the FIFA World Cup year. This is to guarantee stability in the system to prepare the National Team for credible participation at the finals and to avoid the distractions and crises usually associated with the World Cup year.

General Assembly approved Katsina as the venue for next NFF Elective Congress. The date for election was fixed as 30th September 2018.

However, this approval is subject to any amendments to the Statutes in view of the coming NFF Bill. Similarly, the Congress composed new Electoral and Electoral Appeal Committees thus: Electoral Committee: Barr. Mohammed Sani Katu; Mr. Sani Salawu; Barr. S.C.A. Umeha; Barr. Olusola Oke; Mr. Mohammed Manzo; Dr. Mohammed Sanusi (Secretary). Standby: Hon. Isong Isang; Barr. Mohammed Aliyu Sambo.

Electoral Appeal Committee: Barr. A. U. Mustapha; Mr. Mojeed Adegbindin; Barr. Gbwen Alex Gbejule. Secretary to be provided by the NFF Secretariat. Standby: Sir Emma Ochiagha; Barr. Mohammed Zanna Mala.

In view of the numerous on-field (including Nigeria’s qualification for the 2018 World Cup finals with a match to spare) and off-field (including but not limited to numerous sponsorship agreements secured and high reckoning for Nigeria in global football administration) achievements, the General Assembly passed a vote of confidence on the NFF Executive Committee led by Mr. Amaju Melvin Pinnick.

Breaking: NFF plans to spend N6.4 billion in 2018

The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, has announced that its total budget for 2018 activities is N6.4 billion (N6,382,500,310).

This was part of the decision reached by the General Assembly of the NFF in Jos on Thursday.

“The General Assembly approved the NFF Financial Statement for the year 2016 and the 2018 Budget as proposed.

“The Federation’s total budget for the year 2018 activities is the sum of N6,382,500,310.00. The guaranteed revenues from sponsors and government subvention are the sum of N3,062,500,310.00, leaving a shortfall of the sum of N3,320,000,000.00, which the Federation has to work to augment through sponsorships and special interventions,” the communique from the meeting stated.

The body will be getting a minimum of $12 million from FIFA as participation fee for the Russia 2018 World Cup.

Super Eagles players to get a share from FIFA’s N4.5 billion qualification bonus

All the players that featured for Super Eagles on their way to qualifying for the 2018 World Cup will share from the N4.5 billion largesse due Nigeria for being among the 32 teams to vie for honours in Russia.

FIFA will pay the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) $12.5 million (about N4.5 billion), which is $10 million (N3.6 billion) for qualifying for the 2018 World Cup tournament and $2.5 million to prepare for the competition in Russia.

Such bonuses are usually paid by FIFA to federations of countries that play in any of their tournaments as qualification bonus and to enhance the country’s adequate preparation for the actual tournament.

According to Breaking Times, so far, 37 players participated in Nigeria’s march to the 2018 World Cup and each of these players will receive a share of the qualification bonus.

Should the Super Eagles make it to the knock out stages of the tournament, they will be eligible to receive more money from FIFA.

Money issues hampered Nigeria’s participation at the Brazil 2014 edition of the competition leading to players refusing to train on the eve of their second-round game against France. Nigeria promptly lost the game.

Super Eagles’ technical adviser, Gernot Rohr recently pleaded with Nigerians to support the team by ensuring that monetary issues do not derail the campaign in Russia.

“If we want to do something at the World Cup, we have to prepare well.

“We want everybody who wants to be part of the team to show the same solidarity we currently have in the team. “More importantly, we don’t want the issue of money to be a problem,” he said.

CAF has high regards for Nigeria – Ahmad

The strength that lies in unity is the secret behind Nigeria’s upward surge in both the boardroom and the pitch in global football, so says President of the Confederation of African Football, Mr. Ahmad.

Ahmad spoke on Sunday at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos at a meeting with Congress of Nigerian Football, which also had I attendance Members of the NFF Executive Committee.

“If you (the Executive Committee and Congress) did not support Amaju (Pinnick) in his decision to support the Change Team before the CAF elections, we would not be here today. Your support underscores the unity of Nigerian Football fraternity, and this is refreshing considering what we have in some other countries.

“Amaju (Pinnick) has been spot-on in at least two major decisions this year: to support the change at CAF and to get the Nigerian fraternity to work assiduously towards Nigeria’s qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. No doubt, Nigeria is the strongest African team going to Russia and we expect so much from the Super Eagles.”

Ahmad advised the Congress to continue to give backing to the vision and mission of the Amaju Pinnick –led NFF, insisting that CAF has the highest regards for Nigeria.

We are here not only to watch the finale of the AITEO Cup but also to hold the CAF Emergency Committee meeting. Nigeria is a very important country in African football, and will remain so for a long time with the unity and cohesion that I see here this afternoon.”

Earlier, Pinnick told the CAF President and his entourage that though members of the Board do disagree occasionally as normal in any human arrangement, “we have always been able to put our passion and commitment to what is best for the country beyond primordial sentiments.

“When we came on board, we sought to take Nigerian Football to the next level and also sought global recognition. Our hard work is paying off. We have redefined sponsorship; we were one of the first countries to be on the FIFA Connect and; we have auditors one of the most reputable companies in the world (Pricewaterhouse Coopers) while also having an Integrity Officer.”

NFF 1st Vice President Seyi Akinwunmi thanked the CAF President for the gesture of including seven eminent Nigerians in different CAF committees; 2nd Vice President/LMC chairman Shehu Dikko assured that the Nigerian Football family is working towards the same goal and; Sokoto State FA chairman Nasiru Saidu, on behalf of the Congress, pledged absolute loyalty to the Pinnick administration.

Also at the meeting were CAF Vice Presidents Kwesi Nyantakyi and Omari Selemani, CAF Emergency Committee member Souleman Waberi, NFF Board Members Ibrahim Gusau, Sunday Dele-Ajayi, Suleiman Yahaya-Kwande, Chidi Okenwa, Yusuf Ahmed, Felix Anyansi-Agwu, Sharif Inuwa, Mohammed Alkali, Aisha Falode, Babagana Kalli and Musa Duhu, NFF General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi and Chairmen of the 44 Members of the NFF (including the Football Associations of the 37 States, the Leagues, Players’ Union, Coaches Association and Referees Association).

AITEO CUP: Akwa United crowned winners

2015 champions of Nigeria’s oldest and biggest domestic competition, Akwa United FC of Uyo on Sunday reclaimed the title, now named AITEO Cup, on a brilliant and exciting evening at the Agege Stadium, Lagos.

The scoreline at the final whistle was 0-0 but the Promise Keepers prevailed 3-2 after the penalty shoot-out to become the first winners of the captivating AITEO trophy.

The colourful final was watched by a glittering array of eminent personalities, including Governors Akinwunmi Ambode (Lagos), Udom Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom) and Abubakar Sani Bello (Niger State), CAF President Ahmad, CAF Vice Presidents Kwesi Nyantakyi and Omari Selemani, CAF Emergency Committee members Souleman Waberi and Amaju Melvin Pinnick, Executive Committee members of NFF, chieftains of sponsors AITEO, NFF Management, Members of the Lagos State Executive Council and members of the diplomatic community.

The victory handed Akwa United, whose goalkeeper Olorunleke Ojo won both the Best Goalkeeper and Most Valuable Player awards and whose Coach, Abdu Maikaba was adjudged the Best Coach, a ticket to represent Nigeria in the 2018 CAF Confederation Cup competition.

Akwa United forward Christian Pyagbara also claimed the Top Scorer’s award with his seven goals in this year’s competition.

Apart from the mouthwatering 25 Million Naira ($70,323)prize money and the glittering trophy as winners, Akwa United also earned the ticket to represent Nigeria in next year’s Total CAF Confederation Cup.

It was the 11th time the competition was decided via penalties after it began in 1945 as Governor’s Cup. It was later known at various times as Challenge Cup and Federation Cup.

Meanwhile,  the entourage of CAF President  Ahmad at the Agege Stadium popularly known as ‘Soccer Temple’ include First Vice President Kwesi Nyantakyi, Second Vice President Constant Omari Selemani and CAF Emergency Committee member, Souleiman Waberi.
