In the lead-up to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, a dispute has emerged between the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the national team’s head coach, Jose Peseiro, regarding the final squad selection.

Insiders reveal that Peseiro has submitted a 25-man squad for the tournament, but the NFF had exerted pressure on the 63-year-old coach to expand it to 27 players.

Peseiro contends that managing 25 players would be more feasible for him than handling a larger squad of 27.

CAF guidelines permit countries to name up to 27 players in their AFCON squads, with only 23 eligible for registration on match days.

This disagreement follows a previous clash between Peseiro and the NFF over the provisional list, where the coach submitted 41 players instead of the 50 requested by the federation.

Super Eagles now prepare to depart for a training camp in Dubai, before the competition commences.
