NFF President Promises More Top-Tier Prep Matches ahead of 2025 WAFCON

President of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, has lauded the Super Falcons for their strong performance following their 2-1 loss to France in an international friendly match.

Gusau is proud of the team’s display, emphasizing the importance of such high-level matches in preparing the team for future tournaments, particularly the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco next year.
Gusau was especially pleased with the opportunity for emerging talents, particularly home-based players, to showcase their skills.
“As we promised Nigeria that anytime we have an international window, we’ll try and see how we can organize a grade-A match for our national teams. This happened to be one of them,” Gusau said.
He also highlighted the successful integration of new players into the squad, saying, “And you saw the discovery of some of our home-based that were introduced into the game. And they performed extremely well. And so I must say I’m highly delighted, I’m happy with the performance of the girls.”
Looking ahead, Gusau assured that the NFF is committed to giving the Super Falcons the best preparation for WAFCON.
“By the grace of God, we’ll continue to give them all the support that they needed going to the upcoming WAFCON in July in Morocco,” he stated.
Gusau further reaffirmed his dedication to finding more quality matches for the team, revealing plans for additional top-tier fixtures.
“This window, I’m also going to look for a grade-A match… you know, when we try to play Algeria, we try to introduce all the home-based girls. You see, some of them were actually able to compete with high-profile national teams in the world.”
“And I want to assure them that by the grace of God, we’ll do whatever we can to ensure that we give them the good preparation they deserve before going to the WAFCON in Morocco.”
